A few months ago, I was doing an exercise with a bunch of teenagers. The exercise was about “Future Building” and building the life of your dreams. We make thousands of excuses each day about why we can’t do something and they were starting to do it too! So I took them through a visualization exercise. I helped them remove the words, can’t, shouldn’t, don’t and won’t from their vocabularies. And then we started over. About 10 minutes later this very confident, lanky, somewhat nerdy boy stood up and said, “I will be the President of the United States one day.” He owned it, he believes it, and he is likely going to do it, and he has my support and my vote already.
So I ask each of you, “What does it take for you to be President?” or “Happy?” or “Thriving in your career?” How do you show up for others to help them get what they need? Have you thought about what you want? Why do you want it? How can we help you get it? You see, I think a lot of us are not clear, we are not passionate and we either don’t know how to ask for what we want or we are for some reason simply afraid to open our mouth and put it out there.
Seems to me you first have to show up, then you have to ask for it, then we can all work to get it for you! We’re here to support our future President’s, or Bakers, or Mom’s, or Billionaire Startup Founder’s…It’s all good!
